Do music lessons really make me smarter?
In the past decade, scientific studies have shown over & over again that the process of learning to read & play music shapes student's growing brains & boosts learning power. This process aids in the development of logic, reading, abstract thinking, memory & creativity. Polyphonic training specifically enhances spatial-temporal reasoning, which is the ability not only to recognize objects as the same or different but also to be able to form the mental images of physical objects. Spacial- temporal reasoning is the key to higher brain functioning required in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
Will my student have fun?
One of the primary values of Sera Schools is to show students that music is enjoyable & rewarding. We believe that there is a balance between the discipline it takes to play an instrument & the enjoyment a student can receive from the process of making music. Our staff incorporates many games and enhances student motivation though rewarding student achievement.
What is the structure of classes?
Research shows that students learn best in groups, & that we are well accustomed to this at a very young age. At Sera Schools we use healthy, positive peer pressure to our advantage. We also work to make sure each student receives enough individual attention in each class that we offer. This is why on average each Sera Schools class typically has 4 students or less with a maximum cap of 5 students. Students "model" behavior for each other, & their camaraderie inspires achievement. We also offer a wide array of learning environments inlcuding our semi private lessons, academy lessons (private), and in-home tutoring.
Who will be teaching my student?
All Sera Schools instructors are carefully selected & undergo training in order to most effectively instruct your student at a professional level. We look forward to meeting your students needs no matter what level they are at!
What should I bring to music class?
We provide most of the equipment required for music class, including the piano and learning tools. All you need to bring is your music book, for piano & guitar, and your guitar for guitar classes. If it's your first lesson, don;t worry, we'll provide you with a book.

Due to the nature of our class schedule, teachers are often unable to converse with parents before or after a lesson. However parents can request a phone conference with your teacher or a written progress report.

How long will it take my child to learn how to play?
The answer to this question is dependant upon the definition of “how to play”. Most of our families stay with us until their student earns their Red/White/Blue Ribbon, but some are recreational in their approach and choose to leave after their Green Ribbons, before learning proficient reading skills. Regardless of what the final goal may be, every child learns at his or her own pace, thus it is impossible to determine how long it will take a given child to earn awards.

My child has hit a plateau, what can I do to help?
Plateaus are common, especially when a child faces a hurdle that is especially difficult for them. Our teachers are sensitive to these issues and are trained to motivate and guide musicians though these peaks and valleys. As a parent, keeping the line of communication with your child’s teacher open is crucial to overcoming these plateaus. Feel free to request a phone conference with your teacher.
What do I do if my child misses a class?
If your child misses a class, please be sure to contact us to get the missed homework assignment so your child doesn't fall behind. Unfortunately, due to the large volume of students we have at Sera Schools, we cannot offer make-ups for classes missed.
