SS's Vocal Cream Ribbons must successfully demonstrate:
- Review PST, Part 1, Section I: Sustained Tones (#1-2: Diatonic and Chromatic Scales)
- PST, Part 1, Section II: Intervals (#3-16: Major Second through Octaves, Major and Minor Seconds through Octaves)
- Pitch/Sight-singing: introduce solfege (movable do) for PST #10-16
- Physical Warm-up (stretching for physical alignment, “body as an instrument,” facial/jaw relaxation)
- Posture (upright posture; alignment in sitting and standing positions; head/neck/jaw alignment)
- Respiration (“Singer’s breath” vs. “scared” and “sleepy” breaths; posture alignment and breathing exercise; inhale and exhale to counts)
- Phonation (spoken and sung sound in upper, lower, and middle registers; singing/sighing from high voice into low voice and low into high)
- Resonant tone production ([ja, je, jo, ju] relaxed and forward tongue)
- Diction (spoken tongue twisters and consonant sounds; singing on voiced consonants; begin practicing sounds foreign to American English, i.e. rolled r)
- Expression (forte & piano in singing and speaking; crescendo and decrescendo in singing; work on text-based phrasing in songs)
- Complete the 5 Step Song Learning Pattern for both English and Catalan lyrics (for required song on p. 18) for at least 8 songs (hum melody alone, sing melody on [u, a], speak-sing words in rhythm, sing song with words)
- Recommended Rep.: Folk Songs for Solo Singers, Vol. 1 (med. low key): if not already studied, selected repertoire from young beginner (ages 5-7) and beginner (ages 8-9) levels repertoire; selected repertoire from p. 13, p. 38, p. 48, p. 53, p. 23; p. 18 is required study in English and Catalan Spanish
